How do most companies see sustainability?

There are few companies today, in any sector, that are not acting to address environmental and social issues and concerns. Companies are making strong commitments in their operations and value chains, they are publishing annual ESG reports, and they have active programmes underway.

In addition to the positive social and environmental impact of these activities, they also deliver corporate benefit: they can bring peer recognition and good corporate PR, and they motivate the workforce, increasing employee engagement and loyalty and making the company an attractive employer.

But for how many companies are these activities contributing to business growth, at scale?

Most companies have great examples that they can spotlight of one-off or limited scope programmes that have engaged customers or consumers on their environmental or social credentials. But very few have succeeded in scaling these up, really leveraging those investments to drive real business growth.
